Emergency Control Functions - An Electro-mechanical Deep Dive into Safety and Efficiency
This one-hour accredited training session offers an intermediate-level overview of Emergency Control Functions as outlined in NFPA 72 Chapter 21. The course focuses on the critical requirements and operational capabilities of these functions, which are essential for enhancing occupant safety and controlling hazardous effects during emergencies. Key topics include:
• Elevator Safety: Initiation of Phase I Emergency Recall Operation, shutdown of elevator power, and interfaces with Fire Service Access Elevators (FSAEs) and Occupant Evacuation Elevators (OEEs).
• HVAC and Door Controls: Shutdown of HVAC systems and release of magnetically held-open or electrically locked doors and shutters.
• Notification Systems: Integration with exit marking audible notification systems.
Participants will gain a clear understanding of how these functions must interface with fire alarm or signaling systems, as well as where the National Electric Code mandates specific installation requirements. The course emphasizes system integration, project efficiency, and long-term maintenance, providing practical examples to improve accuracy, speed, and profitability in projects.
